Alexander Yakut was born in Moscow in 1955. In 1980, he graduated from the Moscow Art School of 1905 and from Surikov Art Institute in 1988. In 1989, together with Aidan Salakhova and Evgeny Mitta, he co-founded the First Gallery in Moscow, the first private art gallery in Russia. In 1990, he took part in the Venice Biennale as artist and curator. He opened the Yakut Gallery in 1993.
