28.04.2018 – 13.05.2018
Triumph Gallery, Moscow
Triumph Gallery opens its doors to the first solo exhibition of the British artist Georgina Clapham called Mythologies. Georgina is a laureate of the RSA: New Contemporaries at The Royal Scottish Academy as well as of the Aon Community Art Award being most promising young artist of the year. She works in a classical painting manner and in drawing.
In her works, Georgina combines the interest in fashion as a nonverbal way of communication in contemporary subcultures with the search for identity. Generally painting portraits of large sizes, Georgina refers to ancient greek mythology narratives and uses classical painting traditions of the Renaissance. Balancing between grace and grotesque, the artist combines the academical method with the elegance of her models.
In her exhibition at Triumph Gallery, Georgina Clapham will present a series of paintings and engravings, which had been created for last two years, in which she continues a research of textures and fabrics, mythological and folklore images. Creating the formal portraits of her models, Georgina brings all of uniqueness and complexity to her portraits. The extraordinary costumes of her characters are the mirrors of their souls and stand for a sort of dialogue with the outside world.
